Dennis Rainey: I think there are some moms that deserve a special award today.
Guest: Today I went shopping - groccery shopping - and my daughter is teething so she was fussy. And she would want every single thing I had. If I gave them to her, she would rip the box open. And if I didn't give them to her, she had a fit.
Dennis Rainey: I wish I could reach out through the radio and hand that mom - and for that matter every mom - an award, similar to one I received in college.
When I played college basketball, I only started a couple of games. One was against a top - ten team with an imposing reputation and great record. My job was to get in front of their players, plant my feet and let them run over me, drawing the charging foul. I spent most of that game flat on my back, but we won the game by two points.
At the end of the year, the team gave me the "Rough Rider" award for sticking it out when getting banged and bruised by the opposition. Persistence did have some rewards.
One final thought. I think there are some moms today that deserve a "Rough Rider" award. Moms that stay committed to raising the next generation, even as they're battered by the behaviors of ungrateful, unloving children. Moms, hang in there. You're doing a great job.
